NEW GROWTH

While a tight economy has definitely affected the rise of economic growth in the Augusta area over the last several months, there have been several companies which have announced plans to build or expand operations in our area. This new growth helps to stimulate the local economy through creation of new jobs and by providing work to existing companies who aid them in their new construction or expansion plans. These companies on the move include:

Civic Development Group -
creation of 200 jobs, with a monetary investment of $1 million
This 10,000-square-foot call center, operational since October, 2001 is located at the Westgate Center Business Park on Center West Parkway. The Woodbridge, New Jersey-based teleservices company serves clients in the fundraising, credit, and telephone fields. Civic Development Group is a full-service teleservices company that provides direct sales for Fortune 500 companies and mortgage lenders.

Trocellen -
creation of 50 jobs, with a monetary investment of $10 million
A Germany-based organization, Trocellen purchased 13.3 acres in the Forward Augusta Industrial Park with plans to construct a 100,000 square-foot facility within the next two years. The facility will produce chemically cross-linked polyefin foam and value-added combinations involving these base materials.

Garrett Aviation -
representing a $1.4 million investment
In December, 2001 Garrett began operations in its new 22,000-square-foot jet engine testing facility. The expanded facility, which has two testing units for different sized engines, allows the company to test larger engines than it could previously handle, and increases the workspace for mechanics.

Knology -
A 160-employee regional call center opened in Augusta in November, 2001 creating 175 jobs, with a monetary investment of $1 million.
Knology, which offers bundled cable television, telephone and high-speed internet connection services, began operations in Augusta in 1998 with 50 employees, and now employs more than 270.

Comcast -
creation of 50 jobs, with a monetary investment of $4 million
In July, 2001 Comcast opened its new 45,000-square-foot office facility off River Watch Parkway near Interstate 20. The new building consolidates what was once a number of smaller offices into one facility, and increased the size of its customer service department by 25 persons.

Standard Textile Augusta-
creation of 200 jobs, with a monetary investment totaling $4 million
When King Mill closed without warning in May, 2001 306 people found themselves suddenly out of work. Standard Textile stepped up to the plate, buying the existing mill from its bankrupt owner. Today the facility, which produces hospital blankets, employs 200 workers. Future plans include expanding the facility and its workforce.
