Trocellen Announces Plans to Build A Manufacturing Facility in Augusta

Ed Tarver, Patrick Shabal and Kevin Shea attend the press conference announcing Trocellen's plan to build a 100,000 square foot facility in Augusta.

The Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the German-based Trocellen Group has acquired 13.3 acres in the Forward Augusta Industrial Park, with plans to construct a 100,000 square-foot facility within the next two years. The company, which will employ 40 to 50 people within five years, will produce chemically cross-linked polyolefin foam and value-added combinations involving these base materials.

The Augusta site selection was based on numerous criteria such as labor availability, energy, economic encouragement, and an exceptional industrial culture complete with local training programs. Managing Director Bernd van Husen, of the Trocellen Group commented, “The Augusta-Aiken area is a strategic choice relative to the future of many industries. You can read any trade journal and regularly see manufacturing companies moving to the South.” More than one-third of Trocellen’s global production goes into automotive applications.
The Trocellen Group is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HT Troplast AG, whose intent is to be a global leader in all of their specialty plastic businesses. Trocellen is the global leader in chemically cross-linked foams with manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malaysia, and Spain. Consistent with the Corporate “Globalization Strategy,” new manufacturing facilities are also planned for Romania and Russia. A new $15 million production line has been commissioned in Germany to produce “physically irradiated” (thin gauge and very smooth) foams. North America represents a significant final strategic component for the foam business.

Augusta Mayor Bob Young welcomed Trocellen’s announcement, saying “this is the first significant new manufacturing investment in Augusta in some time. We appreciate your confidence in our community and wish you much success with this new plant.”

Ed Tarver, Chairman of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, stated that “The chamber has been working with Trocellen representatives for over two years, and it is nice to see it come to fruition. We thank Trocellen for their investment in Augusta and look forward to the groundbreaking for the new facility next year.”
