Small Business Roundtable - A Free Program to All Chamber Members

Working Together Works!

Chief executive officers and presidents of large companies can always turn to their board of directors, vice presidents, staff specialists, and consultants to discuss business problems. But who is there for you, the CEO or president of a small to medium sized company?

Consider the Augusta Metro and Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Round Table program. The Chamber’s Small Business Round Table program unites small business owners and professional leaders to create a successful business that lends itself to improving the bottom line while building a stronger and better community. This is a networking program that provides mentoring and educational information to assist small businesses.

Strategy:
1. Provide access to Business Professionals who will be available for one year to begin in September, CPA, Banker, Attorney, and Marketing Professional
2. Provide mentors who are successful business leaders in the community

3. Provide quarterly meetings/events - September, November, February, and May
4. Provide each participant with a 5-minute advertisement to the group

Program of Event/Meeting:
1. Business Professional address topics of interest:
The Nuts and Bolts of Running a Business
Marketing Your Business
Show Me the Money
2. Success Story - Learn from peers who will share their experiences, knowledge, and success stories.
3. Networking Opportunity - Fellow Small Business Round Table members will become valuable additions to your network of professional contacts.

Call Tammie Flowers at 821-1312 for more information on the Small Business Round Table program.

New Business Development for Columbia County

The Development Authority of Columbia County is pleased to announce the formation of a public-private partnership to develop a new business park in Columbia County. Chamblin Partners and Blanchard and Calhoun Commercial Corporation have contracted together to create Horizon North Business Center, a 260-acre park, located north of I-20 between Lewiston and Chamblin Roads.

Per the agreement, the Authority is responsible for the engineering and construction of a one-mile connector road between Lewiston and Chamblin Roads. This new road will not only create opportunities within Horizon North, but also on undeveloped land west of Chamblin Road. The private developer will be responsible for the grading of the land, construction of an internal road, and the extension of utilities to the site.

This new park will allow Columbia County to re-enter the industrial market since all but 12 acres in the Authority’s Horizon South Industrial Park have already been sold or committed. The Authority continues to market its 128,000 square foot speculative building in Horizon South.

According to Ron Thigpen, chairman of the Authority, “the combination of the spec building and this new acreage will provide Columbia County the opportunity to again lure prospects to the area. We will be able to show them our building and then, if the building does not meet their needs, we will show them land upon which a customized building can be built,” he said.

Plans are underway for a formal groundbreaking ceremony.

Chamber Recognizes Small Business Person of the Year

In a special ceremony held in conjunction with the September 11 Business@Breakfast meeting, Marvin Brown of Eagle Environmental Services was honored as the Small Business Person of the Year.
