GROWTH
The
Augusta-Aiken MSA is the second largest metropolitan
in the state. Between 1990-2000, the Augusta-Aiken
MSA stood second in rate of growth among Georgia’s
MSAs, posting a 13.5% population increase. The area’s
projected population for the year 2003 is 491,180
reflecting a 3.5% increase. The area’s total
residential population in 2001 ranked 111 out of
316 nationally, according to Woods & Poole Economics,
Inc.
The
2000 median age is 34.9. The percentage of residents
19 years and younger is at 30.2%. The percentage
of individuals 60 years and older is 14.6%, and
the percentage of 19-59 is 54.5%, reflecting a strong,
sizable workforce which continues to grow at a rapid
rate. The 2000 MSA female population is 242,810
and the male population is 231,590.
The
percentage of the MSA ethnicity is 60.2% white,
35.4% black, 3.2% Hispanic and 2.4% as other, according
to the U.S. Census 2000.
