CONVENIENT HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION
Interstate 20 allows for direct access west to Atlanta in 2 1/2 hours and one-hour east to Columbia. A local interstate in the area is I-520 (Bobby Jones Expressway), a perimeter highway linking South Richmond County and Bush Field Airport to Interstate 20. Additional U.S. highways in the Augusta area include north/south Highways 1 and 25, and east/west Highways 78 and 278.

Major road projects under construction include the Savannah River Parkway, four-lane highway to Savannah and the Georgia Ports of Authority and also the Fall Line Freeway which will connect Augusta to Columbus through Macon with a four-lane highway. Highway 17, a north/south corridor west of Augusta running from Northern Georgia to Florida is currently under construction.
